Root Server Concept

Enjoy the full flexibility of services and applications - the ability to be your own web host, run a game servers or any other service you can think of. You can adapt the preinstalled Red Hat 9.0 system to your own needs - your personal knowledge is the only limit!

What is a Root Server?

Root server is a computer with the following main features:
You are its only user; you do not have to share it with any other customers.
You can log on to the server as root (= administrator), which is to say you have all the access rights to the computer.
We provide the computer, RedHat Linux 9.0 operating system pre-installed, for you in our computer centre; from this point on you are responsible for the administration of the server.
We do not undertake any administrative tasks on the computer. From the time at which it is provided onwards, you are responsible for any administrative tasks such as security, backing up and configuration. In the event of damage to the hardware we will, of course, replace the faulty components as quickly as possible and free of charge.
The computer can only be accessed and administrated by a network connection. It is not possible to work directly from a PC using a keyboard and monitor.
The server does not come with a firewall, which means that you need to have the necessary Linux experience to carry out this and other security precautions.
For customers who want their own server in our computer centre for reasons of storage capacity, CPU time or process limits, there is the Managed-Server.

Who is the Root Server for?
The root server is an independent computer in our computer centre that only you can access. It enables you to offer applications and web pages that require special functions that are not permitted on our normal packages (e.g. chat) or cannot be installed (e.g. Game servers).

By giving you full access rights to your root server, we want to give you the freedom to carry out your own wishes and ideas. However, it also means that you have to look after the administration of your server yourself because we cannot include every customer's particular adjustments in our administrative tasks; it would also restrict your freedom on the root server. The administrative tasks include setting up and backing up, as well as data and computer security by means of security precautions such as a firewall.
