Who is responsible for administration and upgrades?

To ensure that you have every freedom and flexibility with your root server we do NOT interfere in any way with your server. That of course puts you on the spot to look after updates, backups, user administration, security settings, domains, databases, etc.

How do I install applications?

RedHat Linux includes a package-management software called RPM (Redhat-Package-Manager). This allows you to easily ingetrate *.rpm files into your system.

Please find a brief how-to for rpm usage below:

How do I use RPM?

rpm -q PACKAGENAME

This command lets you query your system whether this particular package has already been installed. If you add the option -i you will get more detailed information about the package. -l lists all files contained in the package and rpm -qa will list every rpm installed on your system.

rpm -e PACKAGENAME

This command will remove an installed package.

rpm -i RPMFILE

This command will install the designated package. If you add the options -v and -h you will get status reports during the installation and a bar will reflect the progress of your installation.

rpm -U RPMFILE
This command updates an already installed package using the new RPMFILE entered with the command. You may use the options -v and -h in this case, too.

Tip: For a more detailed description please enter man rpm.
